Science Meets the Healing Art of Movement
Updated: Oct 29, 2020
Do you wonder why you can’t get that tension between your shoulders and ears to go away! - or get that lower back to stop gripping- or those hip flexors to stop tightening? You tell yourself to breathe and relax, but every time you reach for that computer mouse or start and stop while driving… there it is again!
That tension has been learned based on your habits and behaviors, it’s become a part of your motor pattern, part of your neuropathy. By just telling yourself to relax and breathe, is not going to change a holding pattern you have developed over time.
“Neural pathways, comprised of neurons connected by dendrites, are created in the brain based on our habits and behaviors. ... As patients participate in new activities, they are training their brains to create new neural pathways. The pathways get stronger with repetition until the behavior is the new normal.” – More on this here
With the Power Thru Movement (PTM) process you will take an active approach to re-educate your neural pathways by using your own mind and your own body. People often think “wow, I can’t possibly change my own neural pathways”, but yes you can! It’s basically learning or re-learning! You are simply changing the input that goes into your brain using a variety of tools that are actually at your fingertips (sometimes literally at your fingertips😊)! Self-touch is a great tool combined with movement knowledge.
PTM is a process that takes time, consistent practice and knowledge. If you’ve got the time, I’ve got the knowledge! …and would love to share it with you.
During my time as a graduate student and faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, I was thrilled at how much of my research in Motor Learning & Control played right into the hands of my developing somatic process. I am grateful to have the ability to share this in a digestible, fun and liberating modality with you!
The best part about changing your pattern to release that tension in your body, is that it releases the “tension” in your mind too! Clear Body, Clear Mind -hence, Power Thru Movement!
